Sleep is for the Weak

Is this all a dream or am I really sleeping this much?

I tried to make a pun there, but I didn’t know how to deliver it. Oops.

Over these past two nights my sleep schedule has been messed up due to shoulder pain. Thankfully, I was able to get to sleep earlier last night and wake up at a decent time. I was asleep by 4:30 AM and awake by 10:30 AM. I mean, 6 hours of sleep seems like a pretty great amount of sleep for a college student, right? Wrong. 

When you have multiple chronic illnesses, sometimes your body needs more sleep to be able to function its best. For me, that seemed to be the case. After I woke up and completed my morning routine, I ended up migrating downstairs to the couch. I was absolutely freezing. My whole body was shivering and my teeth were chattering. I layered on one blanket. Then, my niece brought me another.

Somewhere in between all of this I ended up falling back asleep again. For 4 more hours. And somehow, I ended up waking up with a third blanket covering me. At this point, it was about 3:15 PM.

Once I finally got dressed and did things for the day I got this sudden burst of energy and felt extremely anxious to book my flight for Ghana. I finally had the authorization to do so from my program coordinator. However, the flight they booked is making it really difficult for me to follow through with additional plans that my mom and I were making to meet with a French foreign exchange student that we hosted at his house in France, and that just added to my anxiety.

By 10:30 PM, I was ready to fall asleep again. Hopefully I won’t have this problem tomorrow since I have to drive back to school since it’s the end of spring break.
