POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)

  • What is it? : POTS is a condition that involves the autonomic nervous system (which automatically controls and regulates vital bodily functions) and sympathetic nervous system (which activates the fight or flight response) and how it regulates blood flow. In people with POTS, symptoms are developed when in a sitting or standing position.
  • What are the general symptoms? :
    • high heart rate
    • high/ low blood pressure
    • chest pain
    • dizziness/ lightheadedness when standing
    • fainting or near fainting
    • fatigue
    • temperature deregulation
    • headaches and body aches
    • shakiness/ tremors
    • exercise intolerance
