Scapulothoracic Syndrome (Snapping Scapula Syndrome)

  • What is it? : when the soft tissues between the scapula and the chest wall are thick, irritated, or inflamed (bursitis) or when the bones of the shoulder blade or rib cage grate over one another
  • What are the general symptoms? :
    • grating, grinding, or snapping heard or felt along the chest wall which often isn’t painful
    • popping in the joint during movement
    • pain or tenderness to the touch if bursitis is the cause
